The mind is such a fascinating force of nature.

As a certified hypnotist, I know that your mind has two main jobs: to give you what you want, and to keep you safe. In any case where the two of these jobs conflict with each other (and it often may), the default winner is always safety or survival.

Now the interesting thing about this is that most people's minds have made a correlation in childhood between survival and comfort, or repetitive habits actions and results. 

And unless we challenge and override this connection, it can tend to result in an interesting and disruptive phenomena commonly referred to as self-sabotage.

So what exactly is self-sabotage? So sabotage occurs when there is tension between what we desire and perceived, often unconscious needs, which results in disharmonious, conflicted behavior.

The mind, by default, wants to actively avoid discomfort and anything unknown. But as we get older, we realize that what we most want and desire lies in the unknown.

How to get around this?

The great news is that the mind is incredibly capable of learning.

But this will require a new perspective, including changing the way we think, changing the way we perceive ourselves and our place in this world and changing our relationship with our emotions.

Hypnosis is a powerful and effective way to make these changes, though it is certainly not the only way.  

Dialoguing with your mind AKA changing the way you speak to yourself and think is a powerful daily habit that can break looping self-sabotaging behaviors.

Once you really get comfortable with the unknown, there is no stopping you in life.
