When you don't feel or believe that you can have what you want, it can be quite painful. It's awful to desire change and watch others attain it, and not believe that you can have it yourself. You may ask yourself, " what's wrong with me? Why can't I just be more confident, feel more confident and get what I want? " Can this be changed? Is there any hope?
As a certified hypnotist in the Philadelphia and King of Prussia areas, I know that so many of us struggle with a confidence.
What is confidence? Confidence is our natural belief and ourselves and our capabilities. When confidence is low, it can be felt across several aspects of life, or just in certain areas.
So why do some people have more confidence than others?
One thing is for sure. We are all born with natural confidence in ourselves and our abilities. In fact, you would not learn the very basic things that define human behavior if you didn't naturally believe in your ability to do such things. For example, learning to walk is an achievement full of failures and coming short, and yet it is something that most of us achieve because we know that we can, and we keep trying until it is done.
I believe that most of us would arrive in adulthood with perfect confidence if it was not challenged or attacked. Unfortunately for most of us, our belief in our own strengths and capabilities will be challenged and attacked.
Outside of genetics, I think there are four main factors that contribute to our relationship with our own personal confidence. These are:
If you were raised by loving people and a loving home, you are more likely to be confident. If you were praised frequently and cheered on and encouraged a lot, you are more likely to be confident.
On the flip side, if you received a lot of harsh criticism, your confidence very well could have been eroded away over time. Even if you were raised in a loving and well-adjusted family at home, the criticism that you could have met at the level of your education, your religion if you had one, your government, your social peers and society at large could have done a lot to chip away or outright tear down your confidence in yourself.
Your confidence is also affected by your personal life experiences. Of course, traumatic life experiences can absolutely shake and damage your sense of self-confidence. On the other side of the spectrum, the more experience you have in overcoming challenge and overcoming fearful situations, the more your confidence will naturally grow. This is why, generally, people tend to become more confident as they get older, though there are certainly many exceptions depending on time of life, environment, etc.
I know I would never want to be 20 again! I personally feel so much more confident now, almost 2 decades into the future!
Can this be changed? Can we become more confident as adults?
4 Steps to Grow Your Confidence Naturally
The Role of Hypnosis in Boosting Confidence
Hypnosis is a therapeutic technique that taps into the power of the subconscious mind. During a hypnotherapy session, you will be guided into a deeply relaxed state, where the subconscious becomes more receptive to positive suggestions and insights. This state allows individuals to access and reprogram deep-seated beliefs and thought patterns that may be hindering your confidence.
